ColdFusion 9/10 Charting in Cluster

If you have setup cluster and tried to use charting in ColdFusion 8/9/10, sometimes you would have received “Image Expired” message instead of showing the chart.

Charting engine runs into this problem for two reasons.

1. The scripts generated by the designer use indirect method for image retrieval, meaning that the image is
produced during page processing and is placed in cache to be retrieved by the browser.

After some period of time depending upon cache settings the image is destroyed. “Image Expired” message
tells you that the image requested by the browser is not in the server cache.

To fix this issue you might want
to change cache settings(webcharts3D.xml under cfusionlib).

2) In some cases the reason is that one component is uesd to create the image, but another component is used to retrieve it.

In ColdFusion cluster’s case exactly this is what it happens when sticky sessions are not enabled.

So, make sure that you enable sticky session so that the a particular request comes and is servered from the same server.

After enabling sticky session make sure to restart the web server and ColdFusion server.

Hope this is helpful.

Celebrating 20 Years of ColdFusion! CF Photo Collage

In celebration of ColdFusion’s 20 year birthday here at Adobe we’re inviting you all to be a part of this milestone with us by posting your picture wishing CF a Happy 20th Birthday.  All entries will come together as a photo collage wall at ColdFusion Summit later this year in Las Vegas, so even if you can’t make it to Summit you can still be a part of the celebrations there!

Bonus points to those that have pics with ColdFusion props.  We know you all have a favorite t-shirt by now or saved the old shrinkwrap boxes in your basements, so it’s time to dust those off and show us your favorite CF memories!

The best entries will get a surprise gift, so get creative.

How to debug server restart when ColdFusion services refuse to start normally

We have received few incidents wherein users were not able
to start ColdFusion services after server reboot or while restarting the
services manually.

Reason:

Applications dynamically generate ColdFusion files and
sometimes also deletes them, but ColdFusion does not remove any old files from
the cfclasses folder.

{cf.root}/cfusion/wwwroot/WEB-INF/cfclasses

If you have a huge number of websites on one ColdFusion
server, it creates thousands of cfclasses depending on number of incoming
requests.

Solution:

Deleting all the class files of cfclasses folder and
restarting the ColdFusion server.

If you are unable to delete the files, rename cfclasses
folder and create an empty cfclasses in the same location.

To avoid such issues in future, you can manually delete
class files at regular time intervals.

If you do not wish to save the class files, you can disable
this feature in administrator from Server
Settings > Caching

 Save class files
When you select this option, the class files
generated by ColdFusion are saved to disk for reuse after the server restarts.
Adobe recommends this for production systems. During development, Adobe
recommends that you do not select this option.

Suggested workaround if .Net objects are corrupt or are not working post install

When using .net objects with ColdFusion 11 with cfobjects, it sometimes throws the following error:

This following error occurs when .Net framework is not
installed on the server or it is corrupted. We need to install an updated
version of .Net framework matching the bitness of server i.e. if the server is
32 bit you would need to install .Net framework of 32 bit and if the server is
64 bit then you would need to install 64 bit version of .Net framework. If the
.Net framework is installed, try repairing it using the following steps:-

  1. Obtain the original installation source. For example,
if you installed the .NET Framework from a CD-ROM or from a DVD, insert
that disc. If you downloaded the .NET Framework , download the .NET
Framework again. Make sure that you click save to disk. If you
installed the .NET Framework from a network share, reconnect to that
    share.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type
the following command, and then click OK:

N:dotnetframeworkdotnetfx.exe /t:c:temp /c:”msiexec.exe /i
c:tempnetfx.msi REINSTALL=ALL ReinstallMODE=vomus”

Note Replace N: in this command syntax with
the original installation path.

Important If you do not have a C:temp folder on your computer,
create one before you run this command.

The Microsoft Windows
Installer will verify and repair the .NET Framework installation.

After
repairing it is very important that you restart the server once. Once the
server is restarted and up and running you should be able to run .Net objects
as it should.
