Non-availability of upgrade pricing from ColdFusion 10 to ColdFusion (2016 release)

As you may be aware, core support for ColdFusion 10 will end on the 16th of May, 2017. 

This post is to give you a heads-up that post 31st May 2017, the upgrade pricing to upgrade from ColdFusion 10 to ColdFusion (2016 release) will no longer be available. You must pay the full price to procure licenses for ColdFusion (2016 release) if you only have licenses for ColdFusion 10 or below, post 31st May 2017. 

Please note that if you are already subscribed to a Maintenance and Support (M&S) Plan or an Upgrade Plan you already would have access to the latest version and will continue to have access to the latest version till you are subscribed, irrespective of the version of ColdFusion that you are running on production. For instance, you may still be on ColdFusion 10 in production, but are already under an M&S Plan. In this scenario, you have access to the latest version anyway and this has no direct relevance to you even after 31st May 2017.

  1. Is this a change or new policy? We were on the Adobe ColdFusion website earlier this month and inquired for a client. We were told that CF2016 “Upgrade” pricing was available when migrating from ColdFusion 9. Is this not true or is it only true until 5/16/2017? Thanks.

  2. Within the last 30 days, my business partner was traversing the Adobe ColdFusion website and communicated with an Adobe Customer Care representative. He clicked on “Questions: Let’s Chat” on this page:

    The person checked and confirmed that upgrade pricing to ColdFusion 2016 (Standard) was available when upgrading from ColdFusion 9 for $899. We didn’t save the chat information, but we immediately provided it to a client who was considering an upgrade.

    Perhaps the customer care chat logs within the last 30 days are searchable. If so, hopefully you can find the conversation. (I always save text and take screenshots of online support chats. I’m encouraging my business partner to do it from now on as well.)

  3. Charlie, I’m personally aware of the pricing policy as well as your blog post. I was surprised when my business partner verified and stated that a representative from Adobe indicated that upgrade pricing was available for CF2016 from CF9. (NOTE: Upgrading from “ColdFusion 9” was the specific question. It’s possible that the Adobe Rep didn’t read it correctly.) We make it a policy to always inquire as we’ve found incorrect information on vendor websites and/or some options/conditions are sometimes unpublished.

    I inquired because this online chat took place before the 4/27 blog announcement. I’ve read other social media posts regarding a disconnect between the sales & marketing divisions of Adobe and ColdFusion (ie, can’t find pricing, can’t purchase, take my money and let me upgrade please, etc), so it wouldn’t surprise me if an Adobe customer care representative simply wasn’t aware of official pricing and misspoke. If so, they should be informed so that they don’t continue to provide wrong information to current and prospective customers.

    NOTE: We’re biting the bullet and upgrading our CF10 licenses. We’re also reviewing Lucee as an alternative. (Most things function properly except CFX C++ support.)
